the end of the season, the Sam Christie Racing Team made another road
trip, this time
to the Greenwood Valley Action Track for the 4th Annual Blaize Alexander
Memorial Race. This was the first time at this racetrack for Sam. "The
size of the track was much smaller than I've ever been on in the 270cc,
making it look a little more intimidating than others," Sam said
before warm-ups. Sam adapted to the track quickly, finishing 6th after
starting 9th in his heat. "The car was a little tight, but I was
still getting used to the track. The 6th place finish shouldn't give
us a great starting spot." The format for the feature was twin-20 lap segments. After the first segment, pit crews had 10 minutes to change anything they wanted (except tires) in the infield. Sam started 18th after the traditional 4-wide salute to Blaize Alexander. In the first 20 laps, Sam used the low groove as well as the high groove to drive around his competition. He was safely in the top 10 after the first checkered flag. In the second segment, the car seemed to lose its handling on longer runs, but Sam was saved with cautions, splitting the last 10 laps up. Sam would come home in a very impressive 6th. "The tires were going away in the second segment, so I moved up a lane and drove the car on the high side. I had a blast out there, this track is awesome. The competition in Pennsylvania is a giant step above that of the competition at Whip City, so a 6th place finish is great for this team." |
