After a strong 6th place finish last week, Sam was ready for the August 21st contest, but the race was cancelled due to thunderstorms and heavy rain. "With the track's handicap system, we would've most likely started way back in the pack due to our 4th, 5th and 6th place finishes the last 3 weeks. This weekend would've been a good test for us to see if the car is good enough to pass cars. If we want to finish well in points, we not only need a fast car, but a car that can pass people," Sam said. Sam moved up into 3rd place in points last week, a season high. He is now 24 points behind fellow Rookie of the Year contender Brandon Igo.
