Whip City Speedway 8/7/2004

On a picture perfect evening, Sam Christie brought the #44 270cc micro sprint home to a 5th place finish, his 6th top 5 of the season. Sam's finish, however, did not come without a few early race scares. On the initial green flag start, the outside polesitter spun in front of Sam. Sam had no place to go but to run into the accident. The car emerged, but now with a bent front axle and a bent left rear shock. Miraculously enough, Sam was able to run fast lap times and was able to move into 5th from his 7th place starting position.

"A 5th place finish is awesome. We just need to keep racking up the consistent finishes and the points will fall. The car was a little loose during the race, but on long green flag runs it wasn't too much of a problem once the tires came in. We probably could've been faster if the left rear shock and the front axle didn't bend, but you can't complain with a 5th place finish in such a competitive field," Sam said after the race.
