Big Win for the #44 Team on Double Points Night

Despite an ill-handling car in warm-ups and the heat race, and with the help of some drastic changes and starting on the pole for the Feature, Sam took his very first Feature win in his #44 270cc Micro Sprint.

After a caution on the very first lap, Sam took off from the pole position and led every lap on his way to victory with fellow rookie Brandon Igo, teammate Wade Mattesen, Rich Crooker and Chase Bennett rounding out the top 5.

" The first 10 laps the car was simply unstoppable. It was almost as if the car was driving itself off the corner instead of me having to fight it. I heard that every other car was loose during the Feature, but the #44 machine was right on tonight," said Sam after the race. Sam also noted on his first experience with lapped cars at Whip City. "I was afraid that Wade was close behind me and that I would really have to move quickly around the lap cars in order to maintain my position. One time I threw the car to the outside trying to make a move and almost hit the wall with just 4 (laps) to go."

Crew chief Mike Christie said after the race, "Who would've thought that Sam would win such a big race this early? I knew Sam was going to be competitive this year, but sometimes I would even doubt if we would have the chance to win a race this season. It feels so great to have a win come this early for our team."
