Opening day at Whip City Speedway was a success for the Sam Christie Racing Team despite awful track conditions during the feature event. Sam scored his best finish ever ending up 4th. Sam shocked Whip City regulars by not only finishing in the top 5, but also coming from a mediocre starting spot of 12th . "When Sam kept the car down on the bottom, he could pass anyone on the track," said crew chief Michael Christie. Sam saw this as a good way to start of his rookie season. "My goal this year is to win Rookie of the Year at Whip City, and if I can consistently run well like I did tonight, that goal can definitely be accomplished."
